When I was about 3 years old, [about 1923] I was involved in a terrible accident. I was riding along at breakneck speed on my "Kiddie Car", when one wheel broke in half. I was not hurt, even though I was not wearing a seat belt. But since this happened in the morning it meant I would have to go all day long without means of transportation. However, help arrived at noon when my father walked home from work for lunch. Understanding at once the terrible state of affairs, he took time to assemble and glue together the parts of the wooden wheel, thus saving the day, and averting tragedy.
